Milan, November 2019 – Eicma 2019, the 77th edition of the International Cycle and Motorcycle Show, hosted at Fiera Milano-Rho (5-10 November), was the most revolutionary, innovative and attractive edition of this review with more than one hundred years of history. After the successful editions of the past, the number of visitors increased even more, hitting 800 thousand. Visitors descended upon the eight occupied pavilions, two more than the 2018 editions, to discover the new products placed on display by the 1,887 brands present (historic record for the show: + 47.54% over 2018 and + 10.29% over 2017), 63.86% coming from abroad to represent 43 countries.

Confirmation of the success also came from the numbers concerning the two days dedicated to specialised operators and the press: 43,623 sector operators in attendance, including 23,971 from abroad (55%), numbers which further attest to the international appeal of Eicma, as well as the just as significant and strategic B2B nature of the event. There were also 4,053 journalists and accredited media members, in addition to 4,065 influencers, technicians and communication operators. CEO of EICMA S.p.A. Andrea Dell’Orto commented: “An even more competitive, attractive and indispensable exhibition event.” See you at Eicma 2020, from 3 to 8 November.

We will provide a quick overview of the events and super guests here. To relive the intense thrills together.

THE PRESS CONFERENCE (5 November 2019). It was a true show on the central “stage” of the Piaggio Group exhibit area, with giant screens “involving” the numerous journalists and media personnel from all over the world, showing adrenaline-charged images. The journalists and sports commentators Guido Meda and Vera Spadini hosted the event, opened by Piaggio Group Chairman and CEO Roberto Colaninno, in a succession of surprises, brand by brand, enhanced by the music of famous DJ duo Mark & Kremont.

Citing the big events - such as the Vespa Europe Tour, Moto Guzzi Open House, Aprilia All Stars - that galvanised throngs of fans throughout the year (and for 2020… stay tuned!). And launching the major new products in a global première, with exceptional guests: from American designer Sean Wotherspoon, who unveiled his colourful creation, Vespa Primavera special edition (“My friend Justin Bieber saw it while it was still a work in progress in Los Angeles, and he has already asked me for one”, Sean said), to Aprilia Racing MotoGP riders Andrea Iannone and Aleix Espargaróspecial guests” at the presentation of the eagerly-awaited Aprilia RS 660, with Romano Albesiano (Head of Road Racing Technology) and Massimo Rivola (Aprilia Racing MD); not to mention DJ Ringo, who tried his hand at being a race rider in the Moto Guzzi Fast Endurance Trophy, a success which will be back in 2020 in collaboration with the Federazione Motociclistica Italiana (Italian Motorcycling Federation), which, along with Aprilia, also “signs” the big news for 2020: The Italian FMI Aprilia Sport Production Championship, which brings the very young back to the track, on the hunt for young talented riders who will be the champions of tomorrow.

AX BIAGGI, APRILIA AMBASSADOR, PIAGGIO GROUP SPECIAL GUEST (9 november 2019).

Highly acclaimed, multiple world champion Max Biaggi had an intense day at Eicma: guest of honour at the eSport motoGP 2019 tournament, a video game that almost perfectly simulates the thrills of the track, which was played on the Piaggio Group stage with the “virtual” riders supported by gamer Luca Denaro (alias ‘il vostro caro Dexter’: ‘your dear Dexter’). From the same stage, Max then talked about bikes and racing, the passion for two wheels that he takes to circuits all over the world, not without posing for some photos with the brand-new Aprilia RS 660. Racing thrills.
