MOTO GUZZI VINTAGE: HOW TO REQUEST DOCUMENTS FROM THE FACTORY ARCHIVES

MOTO GUZZI VINTAGE is a service where owners of Moto Guzzi motorcycles can request information from the archives of the factory and museum of the Mandello del Lario brand. By running a simple check on the bike’s registration data, the service team can send the applicant the only documentation that effectively certifies the two-wheeler’s status as an original Moto Guzzi bike. In other words, it’s an extraordinary opportunity to further enhance the value of your motorcycle.
The following documents may be requested from the MOTO GUZZI VINTAGE service.

CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN. An attestation issued by the manufacturer showing the chassis number, the engine number, the year of production of the motorcycle, the type-approval number and the first-sale location. The certificate testifies that the vehicle was built by the manufacturer as shown by the correct combination of registration numbers; it is not a certificate of authenticity.

(Example of a certificate of origin; right, a vintage Moto Guzzi Falcone).

When should you request a certificate of origin? For the re-registration of a vehicle (vintage or other), as a duplicate in the event of loss and/or damage of the original, for enrolment with associations and clubs, for collectionism or for historic interest.
TECHNICAL SPEC SHEET. Document setting out the technical and type-approval specifications of vehicles produced between 1951 and 1999.

(Example of a technical spec sheet; right, a vintage Moto Guzzi California 1100).

When should you ask for a spec sheet? For the re-registration of a vehicle (vintage or other), as a duplicate in the event of loss and/or damage of the original, for enrolment with associations and clubs.
CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY (C.O.C.) DUPLICATE. This is a duplicate of the EC certificate of conformity; the original was issued on first-time registration, for vehicles manufactured from 2000 onwards. The certificate sets out the vehicle’s technical and type-approval specifications and is issued in English.

(Example of an EC Certificate of Conformity; right, the new Moto Guzzi V7 III Carbon, a numbered limited-edition series, 2018).

When should you ask for a certificate of conformity? For the re-registration of vehicles produced after 2000, the transfer of a vehicle between EC and non-EC countries, as a duplicate in the event of loss and/or damage of the original.
IDENTIFICATION PLATE. A sticker with the vehicle’s registration and type-approval data; a standard feature on vehicles produced since the 1990s. Note: the plate duplicate for vehicles manufactured before the 1990s, which does not indicate the originality of the production, is issued at the manufacturer’s discretion, only in cases of exceptional necessity. When should it be asked for? For regular services, testing, re-registration, duplicates of documents that have been lost and/or damaged.

A motorcycle described as a “collector’s item” not only has significant financial value, it is an object of desire for its owner, to be shown off proudly to friends, exhibited to motoring connoisseurs and put on display on special occasions. Through its Historical Archives, Moto Guzzi offers devotees of collector’s vehicles the opportunity to receive up-to-date information on their restoration and conservation and on the procedure to follow to obtain certificates recognised by the relevant international bodies.

The archives provide the following services: 1) Issue of certificate of origin: by providing the engine and chassis serial numbers, the certificate of origin can be obtained subject to verification of the number combination. 2) Issue of documents relating to vintage motorcycles: information and material, including technical spec sheets and documents on vehicles of historic interest.
