INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES: PIAGGIO IS MOVING TO THE CLOUD!

IN APRIL 2024 THE FIRST STEP OF THE TRANSITION OF THE IT INFRASTRUCTURES TO THE MICROSOFT AZURE CLOUD, CHOSEN BY 95% OF THE “FORTUNE 500” COMPANIES

April 2024 (G.T.) – An important project in the Piaggio Group’s Information & Communication Technologies area, is under development. Vittorio Boero, Chief Information Officer (CIO) Piaggio Group, illustrates it: “Continuing on the path started in 2022, we are about to implement, in the month of April, the first step in the transition to the cloud of Piaggio's IT infrastructures, abandoning the classic ‘on premises’ and ‘private data center’ configurations used up to now. The project, which will develop over 18 months, with defined milestones, had its Kick-off last October 2023 and will see the progressive migration to the Microsoft AZURE Cloud.”

What are the main benefits? “The expected benefits for Piaggio Group can be summarized as follows: Improved “Time to market”: greater ability to quickly launch new projects, test new ideas and design new applications by overcoming hardware procurement time constraints. Better scalability and flexibility: elastic scalability with greater ability to serve peaks of demand and react to requirements that instantly exceed the theoretical processing capacity provided (flexibility with respect to unexpected future needs). Improved cost efficiency: savings on ICT infrastructure costs (impact on the income statement). Compliance with regulatory and legal requirements: speed in following the dynamic evolution of the rules. Better guarantee against the risks of service interruption or data loss (minimization of business risk). Further improvement in security, confidentiality and data control (minimization of business risk). Opportunity to use cloud-native services and technologies as a foundation for digital business innovation and growth, not just as technological innovation. Ease of experimentation and innovation: moving from development to application assembly and integration.”

“More than 95% of Fortune 500 companies use Azure.
Businesses and organizations, small and large, established and new, rely on Azure to deliver trusted cloud services.

  • Azure global infrastructure, serving more than 60 regions worldwide, more than any other cloud provider.
  • The largest and most experienced partner network in the industry, with more than 68,000 partners.
  • More than 100 compliance certifications, the industry's broadest set of offerings, including more than 50 region- and country-specific.”

Why the MICROSOFT AZURE Cloud. Vittorio Boero explains: “Microsoft Azure is the cloud service provider with the largest number of regions globally and Microsoft remains one of the top investors in the development of industry-specific cloud technologies. The Azure cloud platform is a leader in availability and recoverability (Recovery Time Objective), in security and in compliance with international regulations. The migration will take place in progressive WAVE, in a way and with techniques aimed at making it transparent for business users (minimal impacts/downtime).”
