Gus Rodio on the Aprilia RS 660 – Perfect double win in Daytona

Runner-up last year in his Twins Cup début, Gus Rodio began the 2024 in the best possible way. After starting from pole position, the nineteen-year-old native of Hammonton, New Jersey had no equal in Race 1, finishing with a gap of over 11” ahead of Dominic Doyle (Yamaha), second on the final stretch ahead of Avery Dreher, astride the team TopPro Racing Aprilia RS 660.

Gus Rodio #96 and Alessandro Di Mario #27, Rodio Racing Team powered by Robem Engineering riders.

Rodio then repeated the performance in Race 2, taking the lead on the second lap and quickly pulling away from his rivals to finish first all alone. With Avery Dreher crashing out on the first lap, behind Rodio, the other team Rodio Racing powered by Robem Engineering RS 660 was a great protagonist, entrusted to fifteen-year-old rookie Alessandro Di Mario, third on the final stretch and just 44 thousandths behind second place finisher, Rocco Landers (Suzuki).

The Aprilia RS 660 confirmed its status as the most competitive bike in the Twins Cup category. In Daytona, the sport bike made in Noale took four podium placements and 11 placements out of 20 in the top ten. Of the 26 riders on the grid, 12 were astride an RS 660.

This double win allows Gus Rodio to leave Daytona with maximum points (50), which is 19 ahead of his closest rival in the overall standings, Rocco Landers. The next Twins Cup round is scheduled for 19 to 21 April at the Road Atlanta circuit in Braselton, Georgia.
