THE EAGLE ON THE RACE-TRACK: A UNIQUE SPORTING STORY

The Moto Guzzi brand has indissoluble links with the history of motorcycle racing: starting from when the company was established, the Mandello Eagle has amassed an impressive series of sporting triumphs, the first at the prestigious Targa Florio race in 1921.

When Moto Guzzi retired from racing in 1957, its remarkable trophy collection included 15 world speed championship titles and 11 Tourist Trophy victories.

World-champion status has been achieved with the Eagle brand by motorcycling legends such as Bruno Ruffo (twice in the 250 category), Bill Lomas (twice in the 350 category), Enrico Lorenzetti (250), Fergus Anderson (twice in the 350 category), Keith Campbell (350). These successes are flanked by seven manufacturer world championship titles.

First, among the world’s leading constructor, in 1950 Moto Guzzi built a futuristic wind tunnel in Mandello del Lario.

In the same period, the Racing Team was a brilliant group comprising engineers of the calibre of Umberto Todero and Enrico Cantoni, and a designer who would soon come to be regarded as a legend: Milan-born Giulio Cesare Carcano, father of the Guzzi Otto Cilindri 500 of 1956.

A revolutionary project that went down in motorcycling technology history for its sophisticated technical solutions and top speed of 285 km/h.
